Wooden beam

Lumber using for construction of houses, cottages, log flooring, creating wireframes, floors and many other construction works. However, in the olden days, there was only one type of timber, which was a sawn on four sides of the beam, and now, many manufacturers are willing to offer us a wide range of wooden beams.

According to the number of longitudinal surfaces and the degree of processing, wooden beams are divided into:

  • two sides processed;
  • three sides processed;
  • squared.

There are two types of timber production:

  • solid;
  • glued.

Solid timber is also known as standard timber. After the milling sawing, it has all four sides treated and perfectly smooth surface.This type of timber most commonly used for building houses, it does not form any cracks, and the boards themselves adjoin to each other tightly without creating pockets of rotting wood.

It’s very important that the extra supporting of thermal insulation or sealing materials when building a house are not required to use.The only phenomenon that can have a negative impact on the timber, that the result of the sudden changes in humidity and temperature environmentcan be cracks that later can lead to their final destruction.However, the bar has another drawback: it is always a core of wood, and it is known, is the softest part of the wood in the structure.

Bar wooden type looks very similar to a kind of «sandwich» with layers, as due to its gluing a certain amount of timber becomes a kind of monolith, which is becoming one peace.Glued timber produces usually from softwood like: spruce, pine, larch and cedar.For the beginning the logs must be dried in special chambers to be the measure moisture after drying not more than 8.12%, and then treated with rails on all four sides by a milling machine.Next, the material is impregnated with antiseptic preparations and eventually glued together. Beam thickness is proportional to the number of layers in it, the more layersthe thicker obtained product itself. Beam thickness should not exceed 260 mm, which is the maximum thickness. The boards glued with special mixtures which are water resistant, transparent and reliable.

Russian standards require manufacturer to label their product. Labeling should be based on the timber used in its manufacture material; numeral indicating the grade of wood, the wood species (coniferous or deciduous) and the diameter of the cross bar.
